Congress Authorizes Full Restoration of Martinez Creek

Thanks to the support of Bexar County’s federal delegation, the Water Resources Development Act of 2024 included a provision directing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to construct full restoration of Martinez Creek. Martinez Creek will now receive the same level of restoration measures as Alazán, Apache, and San Pedro, including additional woody vegetation and the development of a more natural pilot channel. The River Authority Board of Directors was joined by U.S. Representatives Joaquin Castro and Henry Cuellar, Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai, and Councilmembers Sukh Kuhr and Teri Castillo to celebrate this project milestone.

The Roberto Rodriguez Westside Creeks Ecosystem

San Antonio City Council adopted an ordinance approving the renaming of the Westside Creeks Ecosystem to the “Roberto Rodriguez Westside Creeks Ecosystem” in honor of Roberto’s years of service to his community. Mr. Rodriguez has championed the restoration project to bring back the creek life he knew as a child. During his tenure on the San Antonio River Authority Board of Directors, he advocated for the establishment of the Westside Creeks Restoration Oversight Committee and is still engaged in the project today.
